About the Farm

My Story

My name is Mallory, and I love to grow fruits and vegetables.

I’ve never felt like a conventional lifestyle was for me. I spent my childhood mainly outdoors and then a decade in Des Moines, Iowa. As of 2020, I can happily say I am where I belong, living my dream on a small acreage with the love of my life.

Here’s how I got here:

Starting in 2014, I spent a few years working on a variety of Certified Organic farms north of Des Moines. Then I had a life-changing opportunity to start my own project in New Virginia, Iowa. While renting land there, I created the name Sunlit Fields, and grew and sold Sunlit Fields’ produce at smaller farmers’ markets south of the city, as well as made deliveries to the entire metro area.

I concluded that a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model was best fitting for my operation. With the love and support of my wife, Jen, family, friends, and farm supporters, I am able and honored to grow for all of you. Thank you for believing in me.

Why organic:

I am passionate about growing Certified Organic vegetables because I have compared the alternative ones in the stores. It really opened my eyes to what I was putting into my body. I developed a new appreciation for what vegetables really are, how they actually taste, and how my body feels after I eat them.

I strongly believe in the importance of not only how your crops are grown, but how they are handled afterwards. I follow the USDA guidelines and have an annual inspection. I encourage you to come feel the experience anytime.

Thank you,
Farmer Mal
